Just a quick question about the asset that comes with the demo project. What’s the license for the helipad cubemap? Can I use it in commercial projects? I havn’t found the source.
If not were to find cubemaps for commercial products? I’ve googled a little bit, but I’m not satisfied.
I believe helipad came from here:
http://www.kostas.se/koddes-hdrlabs-com-sibl-archive-cube-map-pack/
They are licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial-Share Alike 3.0 License.
The Unity assets store has many of them. Some for free too I think. I’m not 100% sure if the format is compatible but it might be worth checking.
I’ve found the link to the assets of PlayCanvas and the Cubemaps
But can anybody give me some more advice. I wasn’t able to create a own cubemap. Does anybody know a good tutorial for that or how to convert an 360 HDRi to a cubemaps?
@Patrick_Munster cubemaps being created from 360 HDRIs has historically been quite a bit of a mystery to me too until literally moments ago.
If you’re familiar with Blender, following the steps here
https://aerotwist.com/tutorials/create-your-own-environment-maps/
seems to both (1) visually show you the fundamental idea of the 6 positions a virtual camera takes 6 separate pictures (they are all taken, directed along the axes, from the center of a sphere mesh that the HDRI is presumably ‘UV sphere projected’ onto) and (2) do it for you (including if you replace the example HDRI jpg file with your own).
Thanks For your answer, that was interesting!
I want to add one more Link to that topic. I’ve found a Cubemap creator script for Blender that worked with a couple of clicks
You just have to asign a 360 HDRI to the sky or to a sphere, activate the addon and press the render button. It works for me and now I can create Cubemaps from every 360 HDRI.
