Weird layering issue

So I have a few image elements in the 3d space instead of ui, and they overlap eachother despite my efforts to stop it. I’m not the best at explaining things so here’s a video to help:

it seems that whichever is higher on the y axis renders first, regardless of which is actually closer to the camera (could be wrong though)
