Text of Main Menu

Why isn’t my text showing up?

Hi @Jacob_Jack,

It looks like you’re creating a large plane and then adding text elements as children of it. This can sort of work, but you are limited to it only being visible while directly in front of the camera, and you lose a lot of functionality that the Playcanvas UI system provides.

You will want to start with a 2D Screen in your hierarchy and then add button, image, or text children to it. For more information about using the Playcanvas UI system, have a look at this part of the User Manual:

I hope this is helpful.

This screen is going to be for the menu of the game so it will only be seen from the front, if that helps.

I updated some things on my main menu screen, I still can’t see the text. Any idea what I might be doing wrong and thanks for the help as well. https://playcanvas.com/editor/scene/1629993

Hi @Jacob_Jack,

Did you happen to take a look at the documentation previously sent? It should get you started on the most straightforward way to set up something like an on-screen menu. I notice that your intended text is floating in the middle of your scene. If this is the intention, you should strongly consider using a 3D Screen component.

If seeing a project that uses the principles from the previously posted resources would help you, have a look at the setup here:

https://developer.playcanvas.com/en/tutorials/ui-elements-buttons/

You can follow the same concepts in this tutorial with a 3D screen that actually exists in your world. As for the text that you have in the middle of your scene not appearing at all, still. Your text element is missing a font asset. Have a look here to choose a font you can upload to your project for use:

I hope this is helpful.
