Terrain editor in PlayCanvas?


Is it planned to introduce a fully-fledged editor terrain? Or, maybe, alternative that solves at least the problem of the inability to use multiple materials on the same surface?


This is not currently on the PlayCanvas development schedule. It’s definitely a ‘nice-to-have’ feature though. Before this feature appears, we are likely to deploy an Editor plugin system, which would, in fact, enable people to develop their own integrated terrain solutions. Again, no ETA for this.

In the meantime, you could experiment with building your own terrain engine in PlayCanvas. You could start here:

Later this year, we’ll be working on mechanisms to more generically extend the Editor. This will allow third parties to build (and share) such a system.
