[SOLVED] Efficiency of gaussian splats in web applications (car)

Hi, I`ve considered doing a car as gaussian splats (car alone) in Play Canvas.
What do you think could be the smallest possible size of that car in Gaussian splats technology with reasonable quality (sharp)? I want to determine how long users could wait until it will see a quite sharp model. 50MB? 100MB? I wonder if is it much bigger than the low poly model with textures etc.

Do you have any automotive examples in PlayCanvas?

Cheers!!!

Hi, In my experience you can probably get down below 50MB for a vehicle if you use compressed PLY. I’ve done a mining machine which was 7MB.

Perhaps not up to the level you’re after

I know it’s been a few months @mdesign, but I thought I would share this as a good example (a motorbike instead of a car but still nice):

That’s 70MB. But the cool thing is that you can have fine-grained control over the download size in Postshot by setting the target number of Gaussians. This model has 1.5M Gaussians. So if I brought that down to 750K Gaussians, the download would be 35MB with some (probably minor) reduction in quality.
