Scaling Issue in "automatic" walking mode

It looks like there is an “automatic” walking mode in older models now without uploading a Vauxhall collision mesh. So, clicking with the circle-cursor anywhere in the splat makes you walk there.
I really appreciate this feature, makes navigating a lot easier.

Unfortunately, there is some sort of scaling issue, which makes me walk about 1 inch above the ground in all of my scenes. So even if I go up to eye-level with a camera every time I click I’m back on the ground again.

So is there either a way to fix the scaling after the scene has been uploaded or will there be a setting that determines how tall you are while walking the splat?

Here are two of my Splats that have this issue now.

Hi @Buro_Achenbach ,

Nice to hear you like the new controls!

Just to clarify, we’ve updated fly mode to work similar to walk mode with the 3d navigation cursor. (I think that’s what you’ve described - fly mode rather than walk mode).

Walk mode is still only available when voxels are loaded.

I can generate voxels for you on these two scenes using splat-transform no problem. We are aiming to add voxel gen to studio real soon, so you can do it yourself.

Thanks!

…I suppose what I should have said is I’ll generate voxels providing you give me a ride in that sweet ride

Hi,

Thanks for the quick reply - I’ve already created a few Voxel collision maps myself with the beta feature. And they work well for me unless the splat is too large - then generations tend to fail.

But I think my problem is now that we have the same 3-D cursor in fly mode, the navigation behavior just seems to be a bit unexpected. If you take the BMW scene - if I use the cursor the same way that I would use it in walk mode, I end up with my nose on the cobblestones.

Maybe the distance to the clicked point just needs to be a little wider, at least from my first impression - it just might confuse users.

Hmm yes.

Perhaps we can use visually different 3d target cursor to help distinguish the modes..

Hi,
Yes, visually different 3-D curses is probably good, but there is still a scaling issue. It would be great to change scale without re-uploading the model.

For example, in this model, the cursor is way too big. It covers more than necessary and double clicking in fly mode does not take me any closer than shown in the second image.

So either I have to change the scale of the model or the scale of the cursor and ideally even after I’ve uploaded otherwise I will always have to delete and re-upload.

Don’t give me wrong, I still like the 3-D cursor. It just needs a little bit of tinkering.

Kind regards

Kai

@slimbuck

Hi Kai,

You’re absolutely right. High priority is to get simple scaling in studio.

The cursor actually becomes a good debug tool, because you can immediately see your scene is too small. Once you get scale correctly it will then also work well in VR.

We’ll get that support our ASAP!
