Downgrading from Organisations to Personal plan

Hi @Playcanvas team! I have a question regarding the pricing plans.

Currently I’m subscribed to ‘Organisation’ plan. (Actually, I don’t need Organisation plan cause I’m working alone mostly all the time). I have multiple private projects that I work/worked on. But I also have plans to hire a non-team member (other words, a freelancer) to work on my latest project and he/she shouldn’t have access to my other projects besides last one. As this member isn’t part of my team and is only temporary collaborator, I wouldn’t like to buy a seat for him/her.

I’m planning to switch my account to Personal, transfer my Organisation projects to that Personal account (keeping them private), and invite that guy to work on the latest one (he/she has an Personal plan too). Is it something that sounds doable and can be done on Playcanvas?

So, questions:

  1. How can I downgrade from Organisation to Personal plan?
  2. Will my private projects be accessible after that downgrade?
  3. What benefits do I have in my special case (working alone without team members) while using Organisation vs Personal plan (besides larger disk space and Team Management which I never used)?
  4. Will I be able to invite a Free account owner to collaborate my private project?

Thanks!

Yes.

You can’t. The ORG account is a separate account. You would upgrade your user account to Personal and stop the subscription on the ORG account. I will DM you a promo code to upgrade your user account to Personal for a month to help cover the transition.

As you are transferring accounts from the ORG account to your user account, this should be fine.

The only real restriction is a license issue if your turnover is more than $100K a year. See point 7 on T&Cs: https://playcanvas.com/terms

The other benefit is that you have floating seats that are in control of the ORG account. Meaning that if your team/freelancers change, they don’t take their seats with them.

Unfortunately, no. They would need a Personal account too.

Huge thanks for these answers, Steven!

Anyway I’ll make backups to be sure they are safe

Sure, I’m keeping the license terms in mind.

The problem is I won’t have any permanent team members to take these seats (e.g. a freelancer will work for a month, and next few months the seat may be free until I hire another person that will take it).

Hi, I’m in a similar situation and looking for clarity on this:

Unfortunately, no. They would need a Personal account too.

Does this mean that a Personal account can be invited to work on a private project owned by an Organization account? Does the organization still need to purchase an extra seat license, even though the freelancer has already purchased a Personal license?

In my case I’m the Personal license holder, asking on behalf of the Organization.

Yes, that’s correct. Another seat needs to be purchased.

Ok, thanks for clarifying, and for the quick response!

Hi @playcanvas Team!

I no longer need the Organization plan as I no longer have people collaborating with me.
So I’m planning to upgrade my free account to personal and stop subscribing to the ORG plan (so I understood by reading the responses to this post).
Can I transfer my projects from Org to Personal while keeping them private?
On the Org account I have an API Token on a project active (and must remain active even after the downgrade).
Will it be possible to keep it or risk losing it? or does something change?
How should I behave?
What other considerations do I have to make for a safe downgrading?
Thanks for the help and assistance

@yaustar

Yes, I would open the personal plan first, transfer the projects from the ORG and then downgrade the ORG

On the Org account I have an API Token on a project active (and must remain active even after the downgrade).

Is the API key on the ORG account or on your user account? If user, it’s fine. If ORG, you will no longer be able to use that API key as the ORG account no longer has access to the projects.

What other considerations do I have to make for a safe downgrading?

Extra precautions you could take is to do an export build of each project (so you can self host) as well as doing an archive of each project which gives a zip of the current state of the master branch that can be imported as a new project on PlayCanvas.com
