If it was given to you by the school, it’s a school laptop.

I’ve got a Chromebook from 2015 that is running a later version of Chrome than that.

Check the settings on the Chromebook, are there any options to update?

Bottom right on the system tray to get to settings and then About Chrome OS to see if there are any updates available.

If its given to you by the school than they will need to update it.
