Chrome vs Edge computer resource performance issue

Hi, I’m trying to troubleshoot user reports I get where their laptop’s (dell’s) cooling fan max up in speed after spending a minute or two at this playcanvas site: World of Epiroc | Epiroc

We’ve pinpointed it down to that this happens when in Chrome but not in Edge apparently. This version of the site on the link above does not have WebGPU enabled, but I’ve tried with other builds where I have it enabled and seems to render similar results. Chrome version is 146 and edge 145.

Any reason why this might be the case?

Its a full screen app. I would say it is normal for a laptop to have its fans to speed up. I would expect the same laptop to behave the same on other full window WebGL websites. I don’t see any apparent issues with the website you linked, it is optimized. Try some playcanvas engine only examples: PlayCanvas Examples

Yes, it’s hard to gauge I’m not sure what their computer specs are. I suspect some of them with reports don’t have dedicated graphics cards either. We’ve tested it down to perform ok even on iphone 6, so it should be fairly optimized, thanks for having a look too.

the odd thing in this is then why it would behave differently on Edge than chrome.

I’ll have him try to reproduce it with some of the examples you posted.

Seems the culprit might have been this setting was off in Chrome: chrome://settings/system

Computer behaves more normally now apparently!
