Can you use svg format files?

You can’t use svg files for textures or UI elements.
You can use them in any HTML you are loading on top of Playcanvas.

Yes of course it’s possible but with a little cheating. You can use this website: https://icomoon.io/
it will allow you to transform your SVG file into a TTF font file that can be integrated in playcanvas

I was just looking at doing a font / ttf file to a SVG file because of Can we increase quality of font assets? · Issue #2948 · playcanvas/engine · GitHub 
I guess I can’t win either way and stuck with certain fonts as png images only
