[RFC] Shader Editor

I have an engine only project that would be interesting to test out on, may I have access? (it works for engine only right?)

It’s in the same state for both the engine and editor AFAIK. There’s a proof of concept runtime library to load the shader graph file

I’ve sent you a DM

Hi @yaustar, this looks super helpful. I’d love to get access to the beta as well. Is there any ETA of a production-ready version yet?

I’ve sent you a DM.

Unfortunately there’s a lot of work needed to get this fully integrated into the Editor and Engine that we cannot give an accurate date. This is high in our priority of work to do this year though

Hi,

If there’s a way for me to integrate what is produced in the shader editor, into a published version of a game I make in the PC editor, then please send me the appropriate links. A proof of concept would be great to mimic.

Thanks,

@Anton_Gunaratnam_s_S It’s not production ready yet. I’ve DM’ed you a thread that has an example of how someone could use it in an Editor project but it is a proof of concept rather than something that is meant to be used in production.

Currently, the team is working on proper integration but it requires a not in-significant amount of work on the engine to work.

May I please be added to the beta?

Hi @yaustar. I’m interested in testing out the beta as well. My account is robert_fikes_iv and the company account I’d like to use it on is star-atlas

Added both of you and sent a DM

Hi @yaustar, I would also love to try this.

Added, please check DMs

Hi yaustar,

when is planned to release Shader Editor? this feature and a more powerful code editor are the only really missing features of PlayCanvas!
Thx

It’s a bit of a way off unfortunately. Work is currently being done on the engine to refactor the materials and shaders to pave the way for the materials/shaders created by the graph and GLB import to integrate well in the Editor

What’s missing in the Code Editor for you? If you want to use your own IDE/Code Editor, have a look at GitHub - playcanvas/playcanvas-sync: Real-time synchronization of files between PlayCanvas and your local machine that allows you to pull/push code files locally to/from your PC and PlayCanvas project so you can use your own Code Editor
