With IE11 growing significantly in market share, soon to pass Chrome and Firefox, will Play Canvas support IE11 HTML5/WebGL natively?
IE11 on Windows Phone 8.1 also supports WebGL and HTML5. It would be very interesting to see cross-platform support between Windows Desktop, Windows RT, and Windows Phone via IE11.
Good news! PlayCanvas already supports IE11. Try loading Designer or running some of the PlayCanvas games and demos.
There are a few things to note though:
- IE11’s WebGL implementation is still not at 1.0 yet. It’s currently at 0.93 and therefore it may be that some things don’t work quite as expected. Let us know if you see any problems.
- In IE11, in Designer, if you press ALT to rotate the camera, the menu will be hidden/shown. This is a bug that is in our bug database and we will fix as soon as we can.
- Some PlayCanvas demos use the OGG format for audio files. IE11 doesn’t support OGG. We need to update these demos to use MP3 instead which now seems to have better cross browser support than OGG.
Oh that’s great!! I am excited by this today:
Seems like good times ahead for engines and tools like PlayCanvas!!
